A Foggy Day in Copenhagen

After arriving in Copenhagen, no time was wasted. Despite the fatigue and stress of our bodies, we grabbed some Starbucks and hopped on a bus for a two-hour tour, which actually was pretty interesting.

Our tour guide telling us about what is now Denmark's Parliment.

We saw several palaces built by noble families and royalty of Denmark’s past, as well as the changing of the guard at the Royal Family’s winter residence.

The tour also made a stop at Copenhagen’s most famous and photographed sculpture: The Little Mermaid. She sits near a body of water, just off the shoreline. Our tour guide said we were lucky because she is a much busier attraction in the spring and summer seasons. She also told us that the poor mermaid has been beheaded by an unknown assailant twice, though her head has since been restored and reinforced.

We then spent three hours shopping and eating in Copenhagen, which was a little chilly and rainy for comfort, but the architecture was beautiful!

Now, we’re in Roskilde, Denmark, about an hour away from Copenhagen. Most of us slept on the way here and are forcing ourselves to stay awake until dinner in less than one hour. After that, I'm pretty sure all of us are looking forward to sleeping in actual beds and not waking until tomorrow.

Saul tries to talk Monica into eating a Danish hot dog, sort of thing. We all got them for lunch and they were amazing! The pigeons around our feet thought so, too.

Here’s the itinerary for the next several days:

Saturday, March 14: No singing, only sightseeing today. We’re going to the Cathedral in Roskilde, which is about a five-minute walk from the hotel. Then to a Viking ship museum. After that, we’ll travel to Lindelse, Denmark where we’ll stay with host families.

Sunday, March 15: Two concerts today, one in the morning and one in the evening. In between, we’ll tour the Tranekaer Castle and other parts of Lindelse. We are scheduled to stay with the same families this night as on Saturday.

Monday, March 16: We’ll leave for Odense, Denmark, which is the location of the Hans Christian Andersen Museum. We’ll get a guided tour of that and then have the afternoon free to roam the city. That night, we’ll travel to Agard, Denmark, where the choir will perform a concert.

One more thing! This towel swan was on one of our beds at the hotel. Please enjoy:

I look a little delirious...
